Wandering through the digital forest

While searching my hard drive for stray textures, I opened my seldom visited non railroad kits. Mostly game related things, terrains, fantasy vehicles, etc. I decided to catalog them.

Over 100 items, including 4 airships, an entire moon base, (alone at least a dozen models,) an ancient cript, game tiles and dungeons. Still more I havent finished counting. So when the train stuff craps, out I’ll have a whole new market.

Theres still a lot of unfinished train stuff no one has ever seen.

Thom,

Seems to me that you have gotten tired of model RR. But on the other hand if you have all the train stuff that your customers have never seen why don't you release the items? If they are unfinished kits so state and sell at a reduced price. I for one am still waiting for that fire house and I know others are waiting for the gas station. And what happened to the engine house and turntable? Just musing. :))

Post some thumbnails! (MRR and the other stuff) Even if they never get to production, I think a lot of us would enjoy seeing your ideas. Might even spark some interesting discussion.

On the contrary, CM started doing stuff for gamers first. It was my brothers involvement in O scale that pushed it to trains. Train folks took it from there and the momentum pushed it for 10 years. As sales to railroaders falls it might be time to look at the much bigger world of paper modeling.
Its just a business I think we need to look at.
Sure, I like trains, I have a layout, I like running, but what I really do well is design paper models, All kinds. AND I NEED to make a living.

You like my buildings, you should see my airships.

Like the sound of an airship passing over by railroad, might even go for steam punk layout.
Perhaps you could think about making some of the other kits available as some of us modellers just like making the odd no railroad model for a change

I just gave my brother over 20 new textures to add to the collection. AND I still have more to finish.

Thom, I didn't realize you were listening in on a conversation I had with my wife regarding the future of CM. Even though I really like your works, my expressed opinion was that CM would never provide a sustainable income unless you were to dramatically increase your product offerings. You said it best when you described how to make a million $ in model railroading - start with 6 million!
